A Hands-On Bee Farm Experience Unlike Anything Else

This is not a look-from-a-distance exhibit. At Heritage Bee Farm's 1.5-hour guided bee experience, you suit up in full protective gear, light a real bee smoker, walk right into the hives alongside our beekeeper, and hold a live frame of bees in your own hands. It is one of the most unique, memorable, and genuinely educational things you can do in the Myakka City area — and most people who come tell us it is nothing like what they expected.

Heritage Bee Farm is a working commercial beekeeping operation managing over 3,000 colonies across Central Florida. When you visit, you are not on a theme park set — you are on a real, active bee farm where everything you see, hear, smell, and taste is the genuine article. That is what makes this experience stand apart from anything else in the region.

What Happens During Your Visit

  • Introductory lesson — your experience opens with an engaging overview of honeybee biology, the role of the queen, worker, and drone, beekeeping equipment, pollination, and the many products bees produce. You will leave with a genuine understanding of why honeybees matter to our food supply and our world.
  • Honey tasting — before heading to the hives, taste raw wildflower honey straight from Heritage Bee Farm. There is a real difference between raw honey and store-bought, and tasting is the fastest way to understand it.
  • Suiting up — every visitor receives full protective gear including a bee suit or jacket and veil. Our team walks you through putting it on correctly so you feel safe and confident before approaching the hives.
  • Smoker lighting — learn how to light and use a real bee smoker the way working beekeepers do, and understand why smoke works to calm a colony.
  • Into the hives — step into the bee yard and get up close with thousands of bees at work. Watch foragers returning with pollen, observe capped brood, and see the organized activity of a living colony in real time.
  • Hold a live frame of bees — with guidance from your beekeeper, hold a frame covered in live bees. This is the moment most visitors describe as the highlight — and the photo opportunity of a lifetime.
  • Photos to take home — bring your phone or camera. We encourage photos throughout the experience and help you get the shots you will want to share.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe? I am nervous about bees.

This is a common question we hear — and understandably so. Every visitor is in full protective gear before approaching the hives, and our beekeeper manages the colony throughout the experience. Thousands of guests have completed this tour without incident. The bees are calm, the environment is controlled, and you will feel much more at ease than you expect once you are suited up and standing at the hive.

What if I am allergic to bee stings?

If you have a known severe allergy to bee stings (anaphylaxis) and carry an EpiPen, please contact us before booking so we can discuss your situation. Guests with mild sensitivities have completed the experience successfully with full protective gear. We take the safety of every visitor seriously and want to make sure your experience is the right fit.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes — no sandals or open-toed footwear. Light-colored clothing is preferred as dark colors can agitate bees. Avoid strong perfumes or scented products on the day of your visit. We provide all protective gear over your clothing.

Can I buy honey and farm products during my visit?

Absolutely. Heritage Bee Farm's full product line — including raw wildflower honey, infused honeys, beeswax, and bee pollen — is available for purchase during your visit. Many guests pick up gifts for friends and family while they are here.

How do I book?

Select your preferred date and add tickets to your cart. Adult and child tickets are priced separately — please use the Child Ticket listing for guests 12 and under. Group bookings of 10 or more should contact us directly to arrange scheduling.
